In 2009 Sam obtained the degree of professional bachelor in biochemistry at the Hogeschool Gent. In the same year he started at the Research Institute of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food research (ILVO) as technician in the department of crop protection. In 2014 he moved to the Federal Food Agency as field inspector. Last year in 2016 he joined the PSB department in the Oxidative Stress Signaling lab. His focus is on the BintjePlus project, where the main goal is the development of the potato 'Bintje' with a sustainable resistance against Phytophthora infestans by the means of cis-genetic genetic engineering.
